Offline resilience
Local cache of every sign
Files are stored on the player's data partition, addressed by content hash, so a sign is downloaded once and re-used wherever it is scheduled.
Local schedule evaluation
The player re-reads its saved schedule every 30 seconds and decides what to show using your store's time zone. No network is involved.
Atomic updates
New files are downloaded before the new schedule is activated. The previous schedule is kept on disk. A screen never plays a half-synced loop.
Automatic reconnect
While offline the player retries with increasing intervals (from 30 seconds up to every 15 minutes) and returns to normal polling as soon as one attempt succeeds. Telemetry is queued and delivered later.
Fail-safe software updates
Player updates
The player checks for a newer version every 30 seconds, keeps a backup of the code it replaces, and restores it itself if the update fails to unpack. Only strictly newer versions are applied unless NeutroTV deliberately forces a rollback.
A/B system updates
A whole new operating-system image is written to the inactive root partition and booted exactly once as a trial. The permanent boot configuration is not touched by the download.
Health-checked promotion
About two minutes after the trial boot an on-device check confirms networking, the display engine, the player and the API are all working before the new slot is made permanent. Otherwise the box reboots to the proven slot.
Read-only root filesystem
The system partition is mounted read-only; only the data partition (signs, schedule, Wi-Fi, pairing) is writable. This makes power cuts far less likely to corrupt the SD card.
Content and scheduling
Sign templates
Choose a template, type the words and prices; your logo and colours are already applied. Templates are rendered server-side so the player only ever shows a finished image.
Uploads
Pictures, videos and PDFs. Videos are transcoded for the player automatically; stuck jobs are retried.
Groups
A group is a set of signs that play in a loop. Drag to reorder and set how long each sign shows.
Time blocks
Put a group on a screen for chosen days (every day, weekdays, weekends or a custom pick) and hours. Later blocks win when two overlap.
Layouts and overlays
Full-screen, split and multi-zone layouts; ticker, banner and logo-bug overlays.
Fallback logo
When nothing is scheduled the screen shows your store logo, so a screen is never blank by accident.
Live widgets and integrations
Google Calendar "Up Next"
Connect a Google account, pick the calendars, and show upcoming events. Events are synced server-side and cached, so the widget still displays if the store loses its connection.
Weather
Current conditions and forecast for a location you set, refreshed by a server-side poller.
NOAA alerts
Severe-weather alerts from the U.S. National Weather Service for your area, polled automatically.
Emergency broadcast
A single API call pushes an alert message to every screen in your account.
RSS and Google Slides
Show a feed's headlines, or a Google Slides deck, as signs.
Operations and reporting
Screen health
Live picture, Wi-Fi band and signal, storage, last-heard-from time. A screen silent for more than a few minutes is flagged on the Home page and, optionally, by email.
Proof of play
Play events are recorded per screen and rolled up daily. Filter by date range, screen or sign; export CSV.
Screen power
Optional "off when idle": the player drops the HDMI signal when nothing is scheduled and wakes the TV through HDMI-CEC before the next block.
Groups and tags
Organise screens into groups for bulk assignment and tag them for filtering and the API.
Users and roles
Invite colleagues to the same store account; roles limit who can change content versus only view.
API and webhooks
REST API
JSON over HTTPS at api.neutrotv.com, with an interactive OpenAPI reference at api.neutrotv.com/docs.
Scoped keys
Create keys in Settings › Developer. Each key is read or write, scoped to your store, and stored only as a SHA-256 fingerprint.
Signed webhooks
Subscribe a URL to events; deliveries are signed so you can verify they came from NeutroTV, and retried by a background worker.
Hardware and provisioning
Raspberry Pi players
Pi Zero 2 W, 3B+, 4 and 5. The player draws the screen natively (no web browser on the box), which is why it runs well on the smallest Pi.
Wi-Fi setup hotspot
At boot without internet the box opens the open hotspot NeutroTV-Setup and shows a QR code; pick your network and enter the password from your phone. A wrong password never strands the box.
QR pairing
Scan the code on the TV, name the screen, done. A replacement SD card re-pairs to the same screen by hardware serial and keeps its schedule.
Still in progress
An in-browser preview that matches the TV output exactly, and self-serve billing. Ask us about anything else — we would rather tell you "not yet" than surprise you.
